Jane Means to launch e-commerce site

Gift wrap guru Jane Means is launching a trade website next month that will allow her to sell her own-brand ribbon and double-side sticky tape direct to both retailers and consumers. The site will be held at Janemeans.com, which was previously an information-only site. Means has set up Janemeans.co.uk as a replacement information site that will host gift wrapping ideas and details of her educational courses.

Means has previously been selling her own-brand lines through Notonthehighstreet.com but has now decided to branch out on her own. The gift wrap expert said that she decided to create her own designs after struggling to find inexpensive ribbon and Easter ribbon designs.

She said: "It came from my passion for wrapping, knowing what works, and I suppose I have a keen eye."

As well as Easter designs, the range features Christmas-style ribbon and gingham patterns that have been designed to match well with brown paper, fitting in with consumer demand for eco-friendly wrap. Means said: "I have been using brown paper since I started and I'm still not bored of it."

The range has a low minimum order of £50. Means is selling the ribbon in 10m rolls and is advising retailers to sell ribbon by the meter in order to maximise their profits.

Means gave a series of gift wrap demonstrations at Autumn Fair this week and today gave away a free Jane Means course for two people worth £190. The winner of the prize draw was City Life Magazines editor Lesley Ellwood. Means runs gift wrapping courses in Lincoln, London and Oxford.
